Heron for Ordinary Time

Hand embroidered heron and cattails rest at the base of this liturgical stole on a vivid green dupioni shantung silk. Threads used are Egyptian varigated cotton floss, wool and silk. Hand-dyed silk creates the feathers on the heron.

Workbasket: Ordinary Heron

Kayaking brings me deep enjoyment and peace, and so often I am kept company by the many herons that populate the many lakes nearby. Hopefully, this conveys that peace.

Joyful Sparkle

I love this happy design, and each one I do has its own personality. On this particular one, I created a denser effect with the pearls and crystals at the base. A custom order with a shortened length, it plays well with the sparse amount of crystals as it moves upward.

On purple dupioni that is shot with a bit of blue, with light golden dupioni for the letters. Finished up with buttery yellow cotton floss French knots.

Butterflies for Ordinary Time

How about some hopeful butterflies to greet the new year?

On a lovely weight green cotton that has a great luster, hand dyed batik is used for the butterflies in a variety of colors. Hand appliqued in Egyptian cotton completes the look.

Wedding Stoles

In just a bit I will be adding two wedding stoles to my shop on Etsy, and they both come in creamy dupioni. One has a chest detail of hand embroidered 'ribbons' that represent the two partners and a hand beaded circle or 'ring' representing the presence of the Trinity in the relationship.


Next is a simple wedding stole that has hand applied albacon vintage lace (circa 1930s) from France, and hand beading with seed beads as well as crystals, framed in a mass of tiny french (of course!) knots. ;)
This is located on the lower panels of the stole.

I love them both for different reasons... But think both are dreamy...

Thankful!

Far too many days have passed since my best experience ever at a show! The attendees at the conference were absolutely awesome, the volunteers were wonderful, and my customers were great. It was so meaningful to get to know the people who chose to buy my stoles, and a great big "Thank You" goes to them all. It was especially nice to spend the day with my mother at my side, and to have her join in.

I deeply appreciate the generous invitation by Lou East to exhibit and the kind welcome of Cris Rivera as coordinator.

I am in the middle of writing a piece for the blog, but did not want to wait a day longer to give thanks. :)

Kimono Silk Accent

I think beauty and meaning are added when vintage fabrics are elements of new art for worship. Here is an example of vintage Japanese silk previously used in a kimono in the 30's added as an accent.

I had fun with the contrast of the apple green and purple/pink dupioni silk. Framed in French knots.

Storybook Wedding

Here are a couple of details from the stole completed this weekend. It is a custom order for a bride who is having a storybook wedding and wanted pixie dust reflected in the stole.

The white cotton fabric used as the base is Nicole Miller, dupioni silk for the cross and embroidered with silk floss. The beads used are a mixture of seed beads and crystals.
